Do you ever worry about your oral health? Do you ever wonder if there is something you could do—or should stop doing—if you’d like to keep your pearly whites bright and healthy? While you may have already heard, flossing and brushing are important. Still, are you aware that certain drinks might actually have a negative effect on your pearly whites?
For example, you might know that some drinks—including tea, soda, coffee, and wine— can actually stain your pearly whites, but would you be surprised to learn that there are a number of things you can do to prevent this discoloration? For instance, the type of beverage you choose is very important. If you choose to enjoy tea, try drinking a light-colored tea. Similarly, if you want to drink wine, please be aware that white wine is less likely to stain your pearly whites than red wine. Still, red wine can help you prevent or revert gum inflammations that could eventually lead to problems like gum disease. You might also consider putting milk in your coffee, which could help with staining.
Unfortunately, consuming a large amount of alcohol can irritate your gums. Unlike red wine, alcohol consumption can actually make you much more vulnerable to dental issues like gum disease. To make matters worse, if you don’t treat your gum disease, it could become more serious. Gum disease could also lead to a lost tooth.
